Ah, the May bank holiday; a great time to spend the day off from work in the sun. Well, it would be if British weather hadn’t devolved into a mixture of snow, hail and rain just when it should be getting warmer in time for summer. But that won’t stop JLife enjoying a day out of the office, so here is our round-up of the best ways to spend the extra day…
MANCHESTER
Lock yourself in
What better way to escape the weather by locking yourself indoors? A growing trend that began in Hungary, escape rooms are now a widely popular challenge activity with multiple outlets in Manchester, such as Breakout Manchester, The Escape Room and Trapped Up North all offering different challenges for potential players.
The game is simple: you are locked in a room with friends for an hour and have to find clues to escape before the time is up in order to win. Like a small-scale Crystal Maze, the challenges test brain power and they are a great way to spend an hour away from the typical British weather.
Make tracks
Daytona Motorsport offers a range of ‘arrive and drive’ sessions, so new go-karters of all ages can hone their skills on the tracks. If you’re a family of thrill-seekers, this is a perfect way to spend the Bank Holiday weekend. Steer clear for high octane fun!
Embrace the snow
If the snow does continue, Manchester Evening News has prepared for the worst, compiling a list of the best sledging spots across Greater Manchester. Younger members of the family will no doubt be praying for snow this weekend – after all, it’ll keep them out of school for a few more days. To experience the snow indoors, though, take a trip to Trafford and hit the slopes at Chill Factor, where there are dedicated snowboarding and skiing sessions suitable for all ages.
LEEDS
A snack with a view
From Saturday to Monday, Lotherton Hall is hosting its debut food festival. With local street food vendors and breweries supplying the food, plus plenty of activities for children too, the festival offers something for all the family. Most interestingly, the site overlooks the route of the Tour de Yorkshire, so if you want to see some leading cyclists battling the unpredictable weather, this is the best place to do it!
Something for the little ones
Harewood House is also hosting a festival on Sunday and Monday. Geronimo Festival is exclusively for children and features performances by TV stars included CBeebies’ Justin Fletcher. Tickets are selling fast, so if you want to entertain the little ones this weekend, be sure to book everyone in.
Go to the pictures
A bank holiday weekend wouldn’t be complete without a major blockbuster release at the cinema. Captain America: Civil War, the latest Marvel superhero movie, is out this weekend and is set to rival Batman Vs. Superman in the hopes of being the year’s biggest caped crusader release.
