With snow forecast this week, a festive sculpture trail inspired by the story, The Snowman, is hitting MediaCity for the winter period in aid of BBC Children in Need.
After a summer with a giant colony of super-sized bees, Manchester is set to accommodate a sculpture trail of snowmen this winter. Celebrating the 40th anniversary of Raymond Briggs’ heart-warming picture book, the public art trail will feature 12 giant snowmen, running from 22nd November – 6th January 2019, designed by artists who also decorated a Bee featured in the Bee in the City art trail.
To help raise money for the BBC charity, the pieces will be auctioned off online at the beginning of December, plenty of time before the gift giving period. The successful bidders will be able to view the sculptures at MediaCityUK until January, at which point the artwork can then be taken home to decorate.
A number of smaller-sized snowmen will also be popping up around MediaCityUK as part of an inspiring learning programme supported by Salford City Council. There are numerous opportunities for businesses and schools to get involved and put their art skills to the test in designing one of the smaller sculptures.
The Bee trail captured the hearts of Manchester’s residents and visitors over the summer and we’re certain that the snowman trail will do just that.
