With indoor dining soon to be allowed, we take a look at restaurants and bars that will be opening their doors for the first time in Manchester city centre.
Tucked way below Manchester Central, 53two is a new theatre bar set to open this May. Owned by the eponymous charity, the new Watson Street site spans two Grade II listed arches. The venue will eventually contain a 150-seat theatre and arts café as well as the bar, though currently only the bar is opening in May. What’s more, in a project collaborating with designer Liam Hopkins, 53two allows people to commission their own floor plates, set with either their name or favourite theatre quote. The tiles will be set throughout the floor of the theatre’s bar area, following the of movement travelled by those working in the cotton trade on the canals over 100 years ago.
After much renown in London The Blues Kitchen will open up a branch in Manchester. The jazz lounge, club, bar, and restaurant will launch 20th May, serving Deep South soul food to match its specialty selection of bourbon. The venue will also contain a 500-capacity concert hall set to host a variety of acclaimed touring artists from all over the world, including Roy Ayers, Slum Village, and local Manchester scene celebs KinKai and Secret Night Gang.
Ezra & Gil already has one successful location on Hilton Street, and is set to open another on Peter Street very soon. The primary location opened in June 2015 in a former clothing showroom, to massive success. The brand’s aim is to create an urban coffee culture experience that allows both solo diners and groups feel comfortable. It’s not just coffee you’ll find at this venue, however! Ezra & Gil has an eclectic menu that contains toasties, Hawaiian poke bowls, and an Italian-based evening menu.
This restaurant and takeaway run by stadium caterer Aaron Lee had humble beginnings in his back garden in Levenshulme. After a successful venture in the Arndale food market, South Manny Flavaz will open its sit-down restaurant in its new home on Deansgate as soon as government restrictions allow. The restaurant will serve the delicious fried chicken South Manny Flavaz is renowned for as well as signature dishes like the Manny Cheese Steak – a reinventing of the classic American dish – and a raft of sweet treats from waffles to shakes.
