JLife takes a look at some of the most exciting new bars and restaurants opening in Manchester for those of us needing a good night out.
Lane7
This late-night bowling alley and gaming venue has moved into Great Northern Warehouse in the place of All Star Lanes. If you’re looking for something a bit more involved than just going out to a bar, this is the perfect place for you. As well as 11 10-pin bowling lanes, Lane7 also has American pool, ping-pong, karaoke, arcade games, and shooting pods. Lane7 also hosts the first Manchester branch of Fat Hippo, serving a variety of stacked burgers, and a naughty selection of vegan small plates from ‘dirty waffles’ to ‘trash browns’.
Lost Cat
Hidden away behind a newly appeared florist on Oldham Street, Lost Cat is a neighbourhood bar serving all-day cocktails and sandwiches. The bar spreads across two stories and includes an outdoor terrace. The building was once home to Eat New York, which still runs the kitchens, but now Lyndon Higginson is in charge. The cocktail menu is far from your typical fare, containing such creations as the Giminiski: a concoction containing olive gin, melon aperitif, and mint oil. For food, you’ll find an American themed menu containing a variety of bagels and sandwiches.
Atomeca
Within a few weeks of opening their first city centre bar, Schofield Social, co-founding brothers Joe and Daniel Schofield bravely launched their second venture. Atomeca will be based in a unit in the Deansgate Square development. Styled as a European drinkery, Atomeca will serve coffee and pastries in the morning, and tapas plates and cocktails in the evening. The cocktail menu contains variations on the favourites we all know and love, such as the Atomeca Spritz, a cross between an Aperol spritz and a porn star martini.
The Sunset Lounge
The Great Northern Beach Club at Deansgate will be opening a new expansion in the form of The Sunset Lounge. The bar sees bookable private beach huts added to The Great Northern Beach Club’s attractions, each hut containing a 42-inch flat screen TV. Revellers can enjoy chilled Balearic beats in the day, a variety of cocktails, regular DJ sets, and live music sessions. As well as musical offerings, the bar will also be showing all the main sporting events, such as the Euros, Wimbledon, and the Olympics.
