Half Term Highlights

Here’s a round-up of some of the most popular half term activities for families in February.

FINDING FIONA
Everyone’s favourite grumpy ogre arrives at The Lowry in Manchester this February! Direct from a successful run on the West End, the feel-good fairy-tale based on the hit DreamWorks animation film is going from strength to strength!

Reluctant hero Shrek and his adorably loyal steed Donkey are tasked with the rescue of Princess Fiona from a fire-breathing dragon. All is not as it seems however, and it seems this merry crew of storybook characters all have a lot to learn along the way.

Running from 2nd – 20th February with both matinee and evening shows, this half term will have a happy ending for you and your family!

A BLITZ THROUGH HISTORY
All Horrible Histories events are incredibly popular with families and this year’s Blitzed Brits free exhibition until April at the Imperial War Museum North is bound to be no exception!

It has been 75 years since the Blitz brought the war to the doorsteps of everyone in Britain. The exhibition features more than 200 objects, photographs, art works, film clips and sound recordings and reveals the personal stories of the people who lived through the Blitz.

An interactive experience, you will begin your survival journey through blitzed Britain, dodging stinky smells and cramped bomb shelter conditions. Can you brave the horrible home front?

SCARE FAYRE
It’s that time of year again for the birds of Cheshire! This annually popular event at the beautiful Tatton Park gathers together around 30 scarecrows onto the garden estate.

A uniquely original event, Tatton Park invites families to have a go at making their own scarecrows on the farm. Perfect for a taste of outdoor farming life with a dash of competitive creativity thrown in too: challenge the kiddies this half term and ‘crow’ about your creations!

On throughout the half term period, prepare for a scare!

MEET THE STARS
The forests of Lancashire were recently named as one of the best spots in the UK to go stargazing. The Forest of Bowland has been leading the way in creating events and gatherings throughout peak visibility times in the year, and their annual Family Star Gazing evening returns on 12th February.

Guided on a tour of the constellations and the Milky Way, experienced astronomers will teach you and the little ones how to discover the mysteries of the night sky. There’ll be powerful telescopes to navigate the known universe and a chance to create moon craters on a simulated moon surface!

TOWERING STRENGTHS
It is almost a Northern cliché to visit Blackpool during the school half term, but there’s still plenty of reasons to pay another visit to this legendary seaside resort.

Whether you want to test your mettle on the world-famous Pepsi Max rollercoaster, tread the boards Strictly-style at the Tower Ballroom, visit the plush Winter Gardens venue for afternoon tea or congregate the family for fish and chips on The Golden Mile, there are still timeless memories to be made this coming school holiday break.
