Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice launches new fundraising challenge.
Competition is growing between local schools across Leeds to support Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice leg-a-thon challenge.
The challenge, the Leg-A-Thon, asks primary and secondary school teams to keep moving like our nurses who provide 24/7 personalised care to patients and their families who are constantly on their feet! – all in support of the local hospice care.
Roohi Lupton, Senior Fundraiser at Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice, said: “This challenge is a first for the hospice, so we’re really excited that our community is supporting but we need more teams to take part. Schools can take in the challenge by organising woodland walks, conga round the sports hall or taking on a tough mudder style challenge!”
This is part of the new Sue Ryder Schools fundraising pack. The new pack is a way of engaging with pupils across the local community so they can find out more about hospice care while raising vital funds.
The pack contains free and easy access to materials schools need that covers areas from community values, physical education to PSHE.
By schools getting involved and fundraising for Wheatfields Hospice, it can help raise valuable funds to provide incredible hospice care to people and their loved ones at a very challenging time in their life
All care services at Sue Ryder Wheatfields are free of charge to patients and their loved ones. However it costs around £11,000 a day to keep its doors open and only part of these costs are covered by statutory funds. Every year the hospice needs to raise over £2.5 million in donations to continue to provide its specialist care services.
£100 pays for a visit from the clinical nurse specialists to support a patient at home. They work closely with families, GPs and community teams to ensure that patients receive expert care personalised to their own individual needs.
There are also loads of other interesting fundraising challenges available with the help and support of Sue Ryder – they are all free to enter and promise to be great fun to all involved.
