Amendments from the spring 2019 consultation have been enacted ahead of an October planning application submission. Outlined proposals include a new access road directly into the 550-space park and ride from the north, off Harrogate Road. This seeks to reduce congestion around The Grammar School at Leeds by intercepting park and ride trips before they reach the Alwoodley Gates roundabout.
Part-time traffic lights will be introduced on the southern approach to the roundabout, while the layout has been redesigned to prevent traffic driving through the site, deterring private vehicles using the site as a drop-off facility.
A desire from residents for improved communal provision has led to plans for a 400sq metre area to be set aside for new playground facilities, to be designed alongside local community groups.
Following the success of similar schemes at Temple Green and Elland Road, councillors hope the project, which aims to eliminate 232,000 annual car journeys, will curb emissions and traffic problems in Leeds city centre.
