The Roundhay and Oakwood Festival returns during autumn half term.
Oakwood has always had an enviable community spirit, demonstrated yearly at the Roundhay and Oakwood Festival. Returning to the North Leeds suburb from 27th October until 2nd November, local businesses, craft experts and foodie favourites will be on-hand during autumn half term to promote shopping locally and to celebrate the independent ethos of the area.
This year’s festival will host a variety of exciting events at various venues, all sponsored by Southlands, part of Westward Care and the Roundhay Councillors and organised by the Oakwood Trader’s Residents Association (OTRA). Sponsors Westward Care will be putting on a history talk about the Southlands and Oakwood in general, dates are yet to be announced.
Some of the initial confirmed events give some example of the variety of activities on offer. There will be a quilting exhibition hosted by the Roundhay Quilters Group, a spell and wand workshop to entice young Harry Potter fans and talks on how to become plastic free, belly dancing and Turkish food. The ever-popular Oakwood craft and food markets will return alongside a festival cream tea to sample, while after you’ve sampled the tasty treats there will be a puppet workshop and a poetry workshop to unleash your secret talents. Why not also find out about girl guiding, take part in a quiz, learn how to linocut, pumpkin carve and experience snooker taster sessions? There’s even slated to be an adult’s school disco (school uniform compulsory!). And finally, if you want to know about marketing, HR issues, wills and estates as well as how to set up a company, Oakwood Solicitors will be laying on free drop-in sessions. Abbie Keech, managing director and solicitor at the firm said: “Oakwood Solicitors will be there to help out on the day and offer people an insight into the range of services that we offer. We are a full service law firm that can help people with anything from wills to conveyancing and personal injury to employment.
“We do hope that everyone in the area will support this event and all future events held in Oakwood and Roundhay. It is a great way to become part of this inspiring community.” From local artisan traders and established businesses in attendance to exciting goings-on, it’s sure to be an ideal way to reconnect with the Roundhay and Oakwood community throughout October half term.
