The Leeds concert troupe, The James Farrell Concert Band, is currently searching for new recruits in all sections of the band, but for especially trumpet and tuba players.
The band, which stands at 31 members so far, is looking to expand the orchestra, with new players efficient in Grade 5 or above, though a special exception may be made for players of much-needed instruments who may not have achieved this grade as of yet. Applicants will be required to attend a couple of rehearsals which take place on Tuesday evenings at Dewsbury Road Social Club from 7.45pm to 10pm, in order to assess their suitability.
The James Farrell Concert Band is a community concert band which plays in parks across Leeds during the summer months, as well as indoor concerts throughout winter, focusing on a percussive and instrumental repertoire, as well as much loved hits and classics. Most of the players reside in Chapel Allerton, Meanwood, Moortown, Alwoodley and Lawnswood and all performances are in aid of various charities as well as the upkeep and running of the band. This year, the band’s chosen charity was the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
