Donisthorpe Hall’s latest fundraiser, the 24-hour endurance walk, is searching for participants. John Fisher reports.

In a project initiated by Leeds pharmacist Ashley Cohen, Donisthorpe Hall is inviting energetic members of the community to give up 24 hours of their lives in an endurance test that will benefit their health and aid the Moortown care home.

Ashley is organising his third endurance walk which over the years has raised in excess of £65,000 for the home. This year’s event will take place on Bank Holiday Sunday and Monday, 3rd-4th May, involving a 55-mile circular route known as Leeds Country Way.

A staunch supporter of Donisthorpe Hall, he has always wanted to organise an event that offered people a real challenge; one which could prove to be a massive achievement to complete, but mixed with something that is all inclusive.

The goal is to attract relatively fit individuals who are looking for a physical challenge with a twist. “We can offer people something completely extraordinary to do and take them out of their comfort zone,” said Ashley.

The event will be under the coaching guidance of Carnegie Great Outdoors, food and drink will be provided along the way and walkers can choose any distance they wish. It will conclude with walkers returning to Donisthorpe for a heroes’ reception.

He adds: “Everybody who has participated in the last three years has taken something incredible out of the experience, whether that is doing part of the walk, the whole walk or just supporting it.”

For more details, call Ashley on 07768 357 958 or Alexandra Myers on 07718 519 429 or 0113 268 4248.
