Oakwood Cinema is to screen an old favourite to raise funds for a cinema volunteer.
Oakwood Cinema, situated at Roundhay Parochial Hall on Fitzroy Drive, is a community not-for-profit cinema established four years ago. It aims to deliver a real cinema experience with a few independent twists, so expect a large screen, a proper sound system, comfy seats, a licensed bar, hot popcorn and locally made ice cream when you visit.
The Oakwood Cinema volunteer team are staging a fundraising event on 10th November in honour of one of the team who recently became seriously ill with a life-limiting bowel cancer and to raise funds and awareness for Bowel Cancer UK. One of the volunteer’s favourite films, Baz Lurhman’s Strictly Ballroom, will be screened at 7.30pm. A classic romantic comedy and Australian director Lurhman’s debut film, it tells the story of a maverick dancer who risks everything to perform an unusual routine with a new dance partner.
Tickets are £5 and are available from the Oakwood Cinema website as well as nearby local businesses, Tasty Café, Jackrabbits Pottery and Preston Bar.
