JLife’s Kirsty Plowman is competing in this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon in support of Parkinson’s UK.
Taking on a challenge of lifetime, JLife’s community and features editor Kirsty Plowman will be participating in the Virgin Money London Marathon 2015 on 26thApril.
Despite not being an experienced runner, Kirsty was motivated to enter the London race to raise money for Parkinson’s UK. Parkinson’s is a progressive neurological condition which affects one in every 500 people.
“My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012, and wanting to support him and challenge myself alongside raising money for the charity, I decided to enter the London Marathon.”
With three months of training already completed, Kirsty is not letting the nerves get the better of her just yet. “At this stage I’m excited for the race – the atmosphere is said to be electric. I can’t wait for the day and to cross that line and have my family waiting for me.
“My training is going really well and in February I’ll be completing my first half marathon, part of my intensive six-month plan which incorporates outdoor running with indoor cross training as well as yoga. I’ve got a long way to go but with what I’ve completed so far I am building up my strength and fitness which will help me meet the demands of the 26-mile challenge.”
Kirsty is looking to raise £1,900 for Parkinson’s UK and has been busy fundraising through events such as a fireworks night and cake sale as well as raising money through sponsorship forms and has an online Virgin Money fundraising page.
“I have a variety of fundraising events planned for the coming months and really appreciate the support I’ve already received.”
