The Fed’s charity shop, The Charity Box, has reopened.
Following devastating storm damage last year, The Charity Box, The Fed’s Cheetham Hill charity shop, welcomed the public back through its doors recently.
Karen Morse, shop manager, along with a trusty band of volunteers, popped the bubbly and greeted their loyal clientele with hugs and chocolate to celebrate the reopening.
“The Charity Box is so much more than just a charity shop,” explained Karen. “Even though we’ve moved over the road from our old corner position to more modern and spacious premises, it still has a special cornershop feel to it. There’s a fabulous sense of community – we know our regulars really well, we share in their lives and support each other.”
Karen called on one of The Charity Box’s most regular customers, 83-year-old Billy Gunnery of Higher Broughton, to cut the ribbon and declare the shop officially reopened. Billy cares for his wife Joan who has dementia and loves to come to The Charity Box while she is being looked after at a day centre. Billy was delighted to see his friends again: “Fridays are my only time on my own and coming here is my best break!”
The Charity Box donates 100% of its profits to The Fed to support people living in Manchester’s Jewish community.
