Check out some new businesses making a buzz around the area.
Pooky | Redbrick
In its first foray north, Pooky has opened a brand-new showroom to show off its high-end homeware, mainly focused on illumination, at Redbrick Mill in Batley. The showroom has plenty of clever displays, including the brand’s signature wall light cabinets. You’ll find plenty of bold and colourful pieces, including table lamps. Floor lamps, wall lights, pendants, a tonne of shades, and other chic accessories.
Club Atomic | City Centre
Taking over the spot The Hedonist has vacated on Briggate, Club Atomic is a neon-filled, retro-themed nightlife hub creating a buzz. A great spot for pre-drinks, the bar has a deal designed for just at, served between 8pm and 10pm: any two cocktails or a fishbowl, two bombs, and four shots for just £10! The venue opens Thursday to Sunday, from 5pm until 11pm (12pm Friday and Saturday) and welcomes a rotating set of guest DJs.
Afrikana | TBC
This chain first opened in the Midlands in 2018, and has since spread to 10 different locations, with seven more on the way. Luckily for us, Leeds is one of them! Soon, hungry Loiners will be able to sample Afrikana’s signature home-cooked African inspired dishes. Some favourites from the other locations what we hope will be front and centre on the Leeds menu, include the Island Fish and Chips (cooked in Afrikana’s signature seasoning) and the Fried Chicken is Life – a crispy deep-fried chicken tossed in a spicy jerk sauce, served with rice and peas and plantain.
Fuwa Fuwa | TBC
Having already successfully launched in Manchester and Leicester, Canadian pancake chain Fuwa Fuwa has announced that it will be heading to Leeds next, though the exact location of the restaurant has yet to be confirmed. The star menu item here is the souffle pancake, and indeed the name of the shop Fuwa Fuwa means “fluffy fluffy”. The pancakes are available with a variety of flavours, including matcha, cookies and cream, and crème brûlée.
Little Leeds | Moortown
This child-centric café and play area comes from the team behind the Leeds Deli, and unsurprisingly, sits next door. There’s a lot going on at this place, with a tasty café for parents, a fun play area for the kids, and even a selection of boutique products available to buy. There is also a selection of events which the café puts on, including a regular film club, with selections for toddlers, tweens, and teens.
