Green Flag Awarded
Students are celebrating at The Grammar School at Leeds after being accredited with a coveted international environmental award.
The Eco-Schools Green Flag award recognises the school’s outstanding efforts to reduce its impact on the planet. The Eco-Committee used its free time to tackle some of the most pressing environmental issues at the school. These included stopping the sale of plastic bottles, plastic cups, and single use drinks cans at the school, planting 250 trees in the school grounds and securing funding to plant 14 hectares of native woodland on grazed land, plus removing over 500 old plastic tree guards, and transforming a dried-up old pond into a new one that is thriving with wildlife.
Biology teacher, Chris Bodington, who initiated the Green Flag status application, said: “The Eco-Committee really enjoyed seeing the pond transformed from a dried-up overrun area with nettles to a thriving, mixed woodland pond and seeing the return of many frogs.”
New Student Leadership Team Appointed
Harrogate Grammar School has announced the appointment of Harry Baskind and Harriet Winspear as Head Students of the Student Leadership Team. Iman Aslam, Olivia Cooke, Mason De Souza, Jake Sandland, Lucy Taverner, and Lewis Walsh have all been appointed as Deputies.
Harriet and Harry displayed key qualities to earn their place: “They showed real humility,” Director of Sixth Form, Ben Twitchin stated. “They were very articulate and had a clear vision of how they could benefit students in the school. The way they spoke about the school also made them fantastic representatives. Half of the team, including Harriet, only joined Harrogate Grammar School in September 2021. It took a certain confidence to put themselves forward and we were impressed at how keen they were to make an impact on the whole school.”
Headteacher, Neil Renton, said: “We are very excited about our new Student Leadership Team and we have every confidence that they will make a significant contribution as young leaders in our school.”
Allerton Offers Path to Success
Allerton High is extremely proud of our record in enabling young people to achieve success within our broad, innovative curriculum.
