Hale Village is a lively and charismatic village turned lifestyle destination that’s filled with independent businesses and a strong community spirit.
In what might first appear as a small and unassuming village to the untrained eye, Hale is a hotspot for a wide variety of upmarket independent businesses, lavish shops, and decadent restaurants – it isn’t difficult to see why it’s a favourite location of Manchester’s celebrities!
It’s a place with a story and a history that stretches back to the Domesday Book of 1086, with real growth taking shape in the 15th century. Today, remnants of the past still echo through its historic buildings and charming, winding lanes which add a certain depth to its present-day vibrancy.
Throughout the day, independent shopping boutiques, high street and designer brands, artisan bakeries, and quaint cafés are open to those looking to shop or catch up with loved ones. When night falls, the village becomes a buzzing hive of activity from both locals and out-of-towners who have come to drink and dine Hale Village’s many lively bars and decadent restaurants which cater to all tastes and offer cuisines from across the globe.
Since our last visit, there have been plenty of new businesses making their mark in the village. Pop in for a coffee at The Little Bollin which is serving up speciality coffee by Origin Coffee Roasters and artisan ice cream and hosts sourdough pizza nights regularly. If you fancy something stronger alongside elevated pub grub, Charlie Brown’s is a new gastropub with a food menu filled with locally sourced ingredients to celebrate the best of modern dining. As well as new openings, Riva on Cecil Road has had a full refit, a reimagined menu, and big ambitions for what comes next!
It isn’t just the food and drink scene that’s being upgraded. Aaariya Diamonds has made a home for itself, opening a new location that showcases the finest diamonds and handcrafted excellence. Protectus has also opened its first office in Greater Manchester and is bringing a personalised service for all your personal and business health insurance needs. Luxury home furnishings shop Hakim & Co is coming soon so make sure you take a visit to browse its beautiful lamps, curtains, cushions, diffusers, and home accessories!
New businesses aren’t the only ones thriving in the village – Serendipity is available for all your gifting needs (or to treat yourself!) and The Laundry Room offers solutions to take the stress out of that never ending laundry pile you can’t seem to keep on top of.
If you’ve visited Hale Village recently, you may have noticed new benches appearing around the village. These are part of Benches4Hale, an initiative led by Hale Civic Society, an organisation founded in 1963 to protect and enhance the local area. The project was driven by members including Denise Lavey and the late Lucy Nattrass, whose determination kept the idea alive for years.
The journey began after benches were removed during paving works and never replaced, despite strong community demand. In 2019, an application for funding highlighted the importance of benches in reducing loneliness and supporting elderly and disabled residents, though it was unsuccessful. Still, the society persisted. After nearly a decade of effort, benches were finally installed along Ashley Road in January 2026.
As well as the Ashley Road benches, Denise has recently completed the ‘for those we have loved’ project – a series of seven memorial benches around the bowling green, each with plaques remembering loved ones from around the community.
Another initiative led by the society is Bloomin’ Hale, a project dedicated to enhancing the village with vibrant flowers and greenery wherever possible. The society’s efforts aim to create a more welcoming and uplifting environment for both residents and visitors. The bowling green is also set to be transformed, with plans for a beautiful rose garden that will not only enhance the space but serve as a thoughtful tribute to those who have been lost.
There’s a real sense of pride, community, and thriving businesses in Hale Village, so it’s clear to see why it leaves such a lasting impression.
