Aiden, Bella and Fleur are among the 21 new storm names revealed by the English, Dutch and Irish weather services that we’ll be watching out for in the coming year.
Why does the Met Office name storms?
The criteria used for naming storms is based on the National Severe Weather Warnings service. This is based on a combination of both the impact the weather may have, and the likelihood of those impacts occurring. A storm will be named when it has the potential to cause an amber or red warning.
What are the Met Office storm names for 2020/2021?
The storm names are as follows: Aiden, Bella, Christoph, Darcy, Evert, Fleur, Gavin, Heulwen, Iain, Julia, Klaas, Lilah, Minne, Naia, Oscar, Phoebe, Ravi, Saidhbhin, Tobias, Veronica and Wilson.
