Be inspired
Be inspired
The Grammar School at Leeds is a vibrant independent day school, helping girls and boys aged 3-18 develop into happy, confident, curious and kind young people. By nurturing their interests and talents in a stimulating setting, the school’s caring, dedicated staff encourage pupils to answer inspiration’s call.
At GSAL, pupils discover a world of opportunities. The school’s extensive 140-acre campus at Alwoodley Gates offers superb facilities, including an indoor swimming pool, 3G pitch, astros and expansive playing fields. Pupils also have access to an art and design centre, 16 fully equipped science laboratories and over 65,000 library books to help them explore their passions – and to discover some new ones. The breadth of academic and co-curricular activities is breathtaking with GSAL pupils typically participating in four-five hours of enhanced provision every week.
Exam results are consistently outstanding, with 51% of A-level grades achieving A*/A and 71% of GCSE grades reaching 7-9 (A/A*) in 2024. In the same year, GSAL was named The Sunday Times North Independent Secondary School of the Year.
The school is proud of its long and distinguished history, but balances tradition with innovation. GSAL’s founding schools, Leeds Grammar School and Leeds Girls’ High School, were established on principles of philanthropy and scholarly endeavour. The school remains dedicated to these principles to this day, all the while ensuring that GSAL’s educational offering meets the needs for a fast changing world.
GSAL’s latest initiatives are testimony to its progressive outlook. The school’s Lawson Library was recently redeveloped to provide a 21st century study experience for pupils, with 40% more individual and collaborative study spaces, state of the art technology and an inspiring space to host visiting authors and events. Every child from the age of 11 is given their own laptop. Later this year will see the unveiling of the school’s new Performing Arts Centre – a purpose-built, outstanding music, drama and performance hub with a 350-seat theatre, studio and rehearsal space – ready to encourage confidence, communication skills and a passion for the arts in students.
