Celebrating its 10-year anniversary, the North Leeds Food Festival returns to Roundhay Park on 9th and 10th May with some cracking entertainment and the finest flavours the region has to offer.
After 10 years shining a light on the rich, varied, and ever-evolving food and drink culture of our city and surroundings, when the North Leeds Food Festival lands in Roundhay Park this May, it’s sure to be the biggest edition yet.
Over the past decade, the much-loved festival has grown into one of Yorkshire’s most eagerly anticipated food and drink events, attracting thousands of visitors each year and showcasing the best of local and international cuisine, live entertainment, and artisan produce.
The festival was created out of a strong community-focused ethos and has supported Leeds Mind since its inception, raising over £164,000 for local mental health causes.
“I am incredibly proud of what the team has achieved over the past ten years,” says Festival Director Michael Johnston. “The production, the entertainment, and the food and drink have grown massively as the years have gone on. We’ve seen attendance growth every year and we’re truly grateful for the support of the community, especially against the backdrop of a challenging time for hospitality and events.
“Looking back at the first year, it’s funny to think how stripped back it was. Since then, we’ve added something new each year to the point we’re at now – with wacky roaming entertainers, the Foodie Olympics, and even a six-metre giant doughnut. We’re always trying to think outside the box with our approach, and this year will be no different – attendees can expect some surprises.”
As well as offering local treats and delectable foods from around the world, a feast for the ears is also on the cards with an exciting line-up of homegrown musical talent. For liquid refreshment, the Soldiers Ale House bar will be run by much loved Yorkshire brewery Vocation.
Festival Manager Nikki Orrell is excited about the expanded scope of this year’s event: “We’ll be adding additional hot food, bars, and market traders to the line-up this year to meet demand. Due to the popularity of the event, the number of trader applications massively outweighs the number of spots we have available. That said, we always encourage new traders to apply, especially if their offering is unique or local. We have a fantastic community at the festival and we’re always open to welcoming others to join the family.”
With 10 fantastic years to look back on with pride, the North Leeds Food Festival continues to go from strength to strength, offering tastebud-tantalising experiences aplenty and a grand, festive day out in the park for the whole family.
