Globetrotting with World Jewish Relief | 12th April, 7.30pm | Free
Through 2021, World Jewish Relief has been giving online explorers the chance to discover the history of the Jewish communities of Poland, Georgia, Bosnia and now Uganda from the comfort of their sofas. A selection of guest speakers lead the way on each virtual journey, from academics including Jeremy Leigh, director of Israel Studies at Hebrew Union College, to TV personalities such as celebrity judge Rob Rinder.

The London International Klezmer Experience brings Jewish music-lovers together from across the world with its virtual cafe offering a taste of live klezmer music and culture. Hop on to the afternoon session for the chance to learn a klezmer tune by ear with founding member of the London Klezmer Quartet, Ilana Cravitz, and in the evening, discover the history, techniques, and repertoire of klezmer mandolin with maestro Jeff Warschauer of Columbia University.

Jewish philosophy lecturer Ben Fromson welcomes those of all religions and none, as draws on the work of Rabbi Louis Jacobs to make his argument for why there is a G-d, and why we should keep asking questions. Exploring the relationship between morality and the supernatural; G-d’s relationship to the world, and why these arguments matter, he offers a rationalist view as to why faith remains reasonable despite doubt.

As part of Makor’s ongoing Up Close and Personal series, virtual host Simon Myerson welcomes one of Britain’s foremost Leeds-born sculptors in Frances Segelman, recognised for her sculptural depictions of personalities from the world of sport, entertainment, and politics, including the iconic bronze statue of Leeds United legend Billy Bremner. In May, former neo-Nazi leader Yonatan Langer discusses the deep need for change that led him on a journey to becoming a Jew and making his home in Israel.
