Family clothing business Skopes celebrates its 75th anniversary alongside Israel.
Family is at the heart of renowned formalwear provider Skopes. Founded by Sydney Cope in 1948, Skopes has a deep connection to an area synonymous for men’s clothing production. Despite its modest beginnings, Sydney’s meticulous attention to detail allowed his small factory to flourish. He sourced the finest fabrics from Huddersfield and Bradford mills, and his skilled team crafted top-quality tailored trousers. These garments were supplied to leading men’s fashion retailers and department stores of that era.
After Sydney, his son Geoffrey took over and made a significant contribution by introducing readily available collections. The company continued to thrive under his leadership. His son Simon Cope, the current Managing Director, has upheld the family values of fairness, respect, and innovation, which were cherished by his family before him. Simon has been at the helm for three decades and has continued his commitment to the environment and supporting local charities.
Alongside Israel, the brand is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year, and continues to thrive on the foundations upon which it was built. With a long and rich history behind it, Skopes is now looking to protect our planet with a collaboration with Lyfcycle.
Lyfcycle is tackling fast fashion by making a difference in the way clothing is sourced and manufactured, bringing transparency to the forefront of fashion. In partnership with Lyfcycle, through its dedicated process in Bangladesh, Skopes has produced a range of eco-suits, made from recycled plastic. In each suit, 45 recycled plastic bottles will be used.
Skopes worked with Lyfcycle to design the perfect sustainable collection, with every detail considered to minimise the product’s environmental impact and maximise the social impact. The suits launched in 2020 and since then the eco range has led to over 1.5 million plastic bottles being recycled to create the polyester content for the suits.
As part of Skopes’ ongoing commitment to transparency, you can track the entire supply chain of each suit by scanning its QR code, allowing you to see its journey from raw material to finished product!
Of course, just because the new range is eco-friendly, that doesn’t mean that the style is compromised. Skopes’ Lyfcycle Eco Range contains the same sharp styles the brand is known for, including the sleek Romulus Slim Jacket, a single breasted two buttoned fastening in slim fitting, featuring geo printed lining with twin side vents, with matching waistcoat and trousers available. The range is available to be custom tailored so you can look sharp and save the planet at the same time.
You can see the full range of suits online, or visit the stores at Boundary Mills in Colne or House of Fraser,
Manchester. Here’s to Skopes looking after our planet and our community for another 75 years and beyond!
