Find out why Hale is often praised for its restaurants, shops, and community spaces.
Known for its upmarket independent scene, it’s not difficult to see why Hale is a hotspot for Manchester celebrities. Positioned in the borough of Trafford between Bowden and Altrincham, the village is easily accessible from Manchester city centre, taking only 30 minutes by car or train.
In what at first appears to be a small village, the surplus of lavish high street shops, bars, and decadent restaurants mean you’re constantly finding new favourites. The mixture of inner-city glamour with
small-town scale is what entices many of Hale’s visitors.
Echoed in the appearance of the buildings and small winding streets, Hale has a lot of town history behind it. The village was mentioned in the Domesday Book in 1086, but mostly came to prosper as a village in the 15th century which led to the separation of Hale and Hale Barns in 1616.
Neighbouring the historic estate and deer park Dunham Massey, Hale is surrounded by green spaces making it the perfect destination for some retail therapy and a scenic nature walk. It’s no wonder why house prices are on the up by 7% from last year with prices reaching a 2022 average of £788,474, according to Rightmove.
Upcoming events include Hale Carnival on 1st July which features a classic car show, a dog show, live music, and a fireworks finale. Hale also hosts an enthusiastic yoga community with InHale Yoga Studio offering a special Yoga Nidra and Sound Bath session on 22nd April in honour of Earth Day.
The latest addition to the Hale community is the new library situated in the community centre. Funded
by the sale of the previous library site on Leigh Road and Addison Road, the new library boasts a modern
interior with a computer workstation and large windows overlooking the Bowling Green. The library is a
community hub for children, workers, and readers alike.
New businesses in the area include Watches of Manchester, provider of bespoke, luxury timepieces, and Carter Groves – a recently opened estate agents which is the new business venture of Michael Groves, Founder of Hale’s Thornley Estate Agents. Another top of the market service is Optimyze Health, which has a clinic in Hale advocating its innovative light therapy for sight-loss.
An idyllic village to visit or to live in, Hale is second to none in its style and community spirit.
