Chabad Lubavitch Leeds receives welcome support from The Lodge of Dawn for its culinary care package project.
The Lodge of Dawn, one the two mainly Jewish Freemasons lodges in Leeds, is delighted to have successfully sponsored a grant for £1,650 from the Provincial Grand Master’s Fund, for a potato peeler! But this is no ordinary potato peeler.
This is a commercial potato peeler, which will enable the expansion of a project that caters for some of the most vulnerable in the Leeds community. The project called Loaves of Love is run by Chabad Lubavitch Leeds. The care project delivers weekly packages of challah, chicken soup, kugel, grape juice and shabbat candles to members of the Leeds community, of all religious denominations.
A spokesman for The Lodge of Dawn said: “We are delighted to be able to support a charity right in the heart of our community. Charitable giving and supporting the community are key parts of what makes freemasonry the force for good that it is. The four guiding principles in Freemasonry are integrity, friendship, respect and charity, and we believe that the fantastic work that Chabad are doing in the community with this project embodies that too”.
The number of food packages being distributed weekly through the project has been steadily rising and recipients have asked that they don’t stop with the end of the pandemic. Over half the recipients are elderly or single person households and a third live in social housing.
Paying tribute to the charitable work of lodge, Chabad’s Rabbi Pink, said: “It is a great example of the community giving back to help others within the community. This peeler will make a real difference to our project, saving our volunteers hours of work and allowing us to expand our culinary offerings. Our volunteers and recipients will be very grateful!”
