Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital is looking forward to brightening its walls with two new artworks created by Camp Simcha’s 21-strong Manchester Bat Mitzvah programme.
The girls met for a Purim-themed volunteering session, where they created the two canvases and also packed 120 Mishloach Manot for family members supported locally by the charity.
Michal Black, Manchester Community Relationship Manager for Camp Simcha, which helps families with seriously ill children, said the girls worked really hard to get the canvases looking just right: “The art works were specifically requested by the hospital; one was a welcome sign for the play therapy team to place at the entrance to their department – with the word ‘welcome’ written in difference languages.
“The second piece was a motivational and calming display designed for Galaxy House, the mental health unit for children and young people.”
Group participant Shifra Brown, from Salford, who celebrated her own Bat Mitzvah last month, said she enjoyed volunteering her time to help children who might be struggling: “It was fun packing the Mishloach Manot and then we painted the canvases which said welcome in numerous languages and the word ‘relax’ decorated in butterflies to enhance the hospitals.
“It was such an enjoyable experience, especially knowing that people who are sick or struggling will benefit from our efforts.”
