StandWithUs Educator Charlotte Korchak visited Manchester’s Jewish students in the face of antisemitism.
The Yeshurun Synagogue congregation gave StandWithUs representative Charlotte Korchak
a warm welcome during her visit to Manchester last month. Speaking at the Shabbat services, the senior educator shared the challenges young Jewish people are facing on campuses and highlighted the role StandWithUs plays to challenge antisemitism.
An international organisation, StandWithUs educates people of all ages and backgrounds, challenging the spread of misinformation towards ethnic minorities and fighting antisemitism. Energising students with educational programs and lectures on behalf of the group, Charlotte meets over 10,000 students a year, teaching them to be more effective activists in high schools and universities worldwide.
Joy Wolfe, Founding President of StandWithUs UK, said: “Charlotte charmed everyone at Yeshurun during the services with her brilliant oratory, in-depth knowledge and infectious enthusiasm. Anyone who missed it missed a real treat.”
30 students visited Gatley to hear Charlotte speak during her visit to Yeshurun, where
she urged the young listeners to play a role in combatting antisemitism threats and pressures. Despite the positive feedback from listeners at Yeshurun, Charlotte was faced with opposition from anti-Israel activists in an earlier visit to Manchester University’s students’ union, though fortunately the CST were on hand to ensure her safety.
Despite the mixed response at the university, Charlotte still took it as first-hand experience of what students must face, praising the positive engagement of her listeners overall: “I was very impressed with the interest the audience showed during my visit and hope that I was able to give them some tools to help them in the future.”
