Get Curly!

Heatless curls are a great way to prevent your hair from heat damage and there are so many ways to get them!

Heatless curls are a great way to get curly hair without using straighteners or a curling iron. Instead of using heat, you sleep with slightly damp hair rolled up so when the hair dries it will take the shape of your desired curling method. Depending on what you choose to curl your hair with, how tightly you wrap it, and your hair length, you will achieve a tight or loose curl. As with any new style, practice makes perfect so try different methods to find the style that works best for you.

Before you start

Make sure your hair isn’t wet, it should be damp to the touch and feel 95% dry. If your hair is too wet the curls wont take hold and will drop out faster. If you struggle to know whether your hair is too dry or too damp after washing, then try using water in a misting bottle on dry hair so you can control how much water you’re using. If you have pin straight hair which struggles to hold a curl, try using a curl mousse on your hair before rolling or a setting lotion mixed in with your water to dampen your hair.

Dressing gown belt

The one that started it all on social media, the dressing gown belt. There are silk ropes made to mimic that classic Tik Tok method, so you don’t have to steal your dressing gown belt whenever you want a new do. With this rope you can curl your hair while you sleep, it will only take under 30 minutes the night before, and the silky material will keep your hair from frizz and damage while its damp.

Silicone wraps

With some simple silicone wraps from Primark, you won’t have to use any heat and still achieve that bouncy curl. Just use the rod to push your hair through the silicone covering and once it dries it’ll take its shape!

Foam rollers

Let’s go vintage! If you want to achieve a tight vintage hairstyle the best way to achieve this is to use foam rollers or pin curls, both work in a similar way. To use foam rollers, make sure your hair has some kind of setting lotion/curling mousse in it to keep the waves after thoroughly brushing. Keep your hair flat like a ribbon and making sure not to twist the strands. This is very important for the ends, if they poke out of your roller or aren’t flat, they will frizz and look frayed.

Pin curls

Pin curls work the same way as rollers but instead of using a roller you use your fingers! For extra comfort and vintage vibes wrap your head in a silk scarf to prevent accidentally catching the pins as you sleep.
