JLife speaks to Moor Allerton Golf Club Junior Oscar Land as he prepares for a US University Scholarship.
Moor Allerton Golf Club Junior Oscar Land has accepted a scholarship in America to further his professional golfing career. The 19-year-old accepted the offer by Wingate University in North Carolina after a lengthy process involving local tournaments and interviews with numerous US universities about his golfing ambitions.

“I was thinking about applying for the scholarship for a long time before eventually going for it,” said Oscar. “The process was pretty intense, with a lot of face time calls with US golf coaches and pressure to perform well in tournaments during my A level studies. I was still very anxious after getting told I was accepted at first, but now I just can’t wait to go and experience it all!”

Oscar will visit Wingate this April with his family before officially leaving home in August to begin the four-year scholarship on the American campus, taking on more competitions and training with the head coach six days a week alongside his studies for a degree in the business and finance sector.

“My family are buzzing that I’m going,” said Oscar. “They’ll miss me when I leave but tell me how glad they are that I achieved the goal I’ve been after for so long. My dad is a big golfer himself who’s always helped me through the years. He’s always proud when I do well, and it keeps me motivated to succeed.”
