North Leeds’ local schools celebrated an exceptional set of GCSE results after the first traditional set of exams since the pandemic.
School pupils across the community have been celebrating over the summer with top GCSE results this year following multiple setbacks to their studies due to COVID.
For The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL), over half of all grades awarded for students were at 8 and 9, with 31% at the highly sought-after grade 9. The high achievers included Talia Tobias, from Alwoodley, who the earned the coveted grade 9 in all ten of her subjects, with fellow students, Ruby Sandler and Harris Glaser also scooping grades between 9 and 7 in all their subjects.
“I am extremely proud of our GCSE students, and they thoroughly deserve these results,” said GSAL Principal, Sue Woodroofe. “They responded so positively to the school’s online learning provision throughout each lockdown of recent years and have impressed everyone with their commitment, hard work, and enthusiasm.
“Their experience over the past two and a half years will be a source of strength as they look to their A Level studies, and I am excited for what these young people will continue to achieve as they grow and develop in sixth form.”
Students at The Leeds Jewish Free School (LJFS) also achieved a record set of GCSE results, with 42% of students achieving the highest possible grades of 8 and 9 including Zack Lee, Abu Mohammed, and Teah Foreman.
“We are so proud of our amazing LJFS students and the results they have achieved,” said LJFS Chair of Governors, Dan Cohen. “They have achieved this with a huge amount of their hard work together with tremendous support and dedication from our staff team to ensure every student got the results they deserve.”
