SpotitEarly are a group of multidisciplinary experts dedicated to making cancer diagnosis accurate, affordable and as easy as breathing. In a recent clinical trial, the Israel-based company have found Labradors can sniff early signs of cancer with a 93% success rate.
Co-Founder Udi Bobrovsky says: “If you discover cancer in its early stages, you can save nine out of 10 people. If you discover cancer in the fourth stage, you can only save one out of 10 people. If we can help discover cancer in the early stage, we can do a great thing for humanity.”
The trained dogs were able to identify the four most common cancers – prostate, lung, breast, and colon – by the way they responded to the patients’ breath samples.
If successful for public use, the user will purchase an at home sample kit which they will then post to a sniffing station where the specially trained dogs will sniff the sample. If the dog’s behavior alerts the AI algorithm that cancer is detected, further medical testing will be done on the patient.
