“Yeshurun must be one of the most proactive shuls that I’ve ever known.” These were the honest words of an admirer of the Cheadle & Gatley Yeshurun synagogue. Certainly, cocktails and sushi  served pre-Kabbalat Shabbat service, challah bakes, youth activities and services, Lunch and Learn with the Rabbi and Rebbetzen and much more is offered to its lucky members.

So how did the lockdown affect the Gatley-based shul? Well, the dynamic duo Rabbi Greg and his wife Hannah rose to the difficult situation – to source and present Zoom programmes and  activities for every day of the week. The last 18 months have seen the shul offer weekday minyanim, learning programmes, high-profile guest speakers and top musicians from Israel and across the  world, Kabbalat Shabbat and later in the year Havdalah services, art classes, sing-along groups, yoga classes and even a virtual whisky tasting evening!

But what about Jewish life after COVID? Lockdown has resulted in a major long-term shift towards home working; with many families considering breaking free of costly and time-consuming commutes and all the stress that comes with it.

Yeshurun has relaunched its website showing its wide variety of vibrant activities for all ages – in shul, across the community, and virtually – to help you think about relocating to a pleasant green suburb in Cheshire in a post-COVID world. With a wide range of affordable housing and high-achieving educational establishments, including North Cheshire Jewish Primary School and Nursery, within walking distance of the shul, it’s a wonderful place to live.

There’s excellent shopping, including Lulus kosher deli and major superstores, with transport links across the country, as well as planning permission for an eruv. On the edge of the Cheshire  countryside, with wonderful parks and leisure areas; yet only 25 minutes away from north Manchester, Yeshurun is ready to welcome you to its vibrant community.
