Welcome Back

October will see the return of The FED’s much-loved Bar and Bat Mitzvah programme.

The Fed’s Bar and Bat Mitzvah programme will kick off again at the start of October with a packed schedule of engaging, educational monthly activities throughout the school year, ending with a summertime graduation and party. The programme aims to instil in its participants an awareness of, and sensitivity to, the difficulties faced by some people in their own community, how The Fed helps people in need and how the youngsters can begin to make a difference.

Welcome Back

31 August 2022

Natasha Sarak, the project’s lead, is thrilled that she will be able to host the project in person once more: “Although the programme we ran during lockdown was a massive success I’m so excited that I’ll be meeting this year’s intake in person. We have some really inspiring speakers lined up and great opportunities to get involved in The Fed’s work.

“The programme offers a gateway for young people to gain a better understanding of charity and communal responsibility. They’ll see some of our work at Heathlands and across the community first-hand, but at the same time I’ll be making sure they have loads of fun!”

Joining Natasha in running the sessions this year is The Fed’s NextGen Volunteer Project Co-ordinator, Dan Jeffries.

Adele Whelan, whose son, Nadav, took part last year praised the overall message of the course: “I wanted him to understand that charity should always be a first priority, and that not all kids are as fortunate as him to be able to celebrate their bar or bat mitzvah. I wanted him to learn that to receive, you must also give back to others.

“He really looked forward to all the meetings and learned a lot from the topics they discussed, culminating with him raising money by doing a 5km sponsored walk every day for 30 days!”

Michael Marks’ daughter, Dahlia was also a participant last year. He was similarly full of praise for the programme: “We sought out ways that she could do something to celebrate and to help the community at the same time. We knew about the amazing work The Fed does and felt that this was a chance for her to understand more about the community and raise some vital funds for such a wonderful cause as well.”
