Since hospitality reopened, Leeds has been ranked one of the biggest restaurant spenders, and with so many eateries to choose from, it should come as no surprise. Here are just a few of the new ventures that have popped up to satiate the city’s voracious appetite.
Multistories
Eight storeys up on the rooftop of the Merrion Centre car park, Multistories will be offering food and drink, top shelf music and stunning views over the city. With ticketed weekend entry, the summer pop-up event will feature street food including tapas sharing boards from the likes of the talented Matt Healy of MasterChef fame; decadent burger creations from purveyors of all things Wagyu, Solita; and with the sweet treats covered, The Savvy Baker will be slinging everything from blondies to brownies.
Jollibee
Filipino fast-food chain Jollibee caused quite a stir when it opened its doors earlier this summer, as more than 150 hungry Loiners queued outside its new Leeds branch on The Headrow from as early as 5.30am. Among the dishes they waited patiently for were its signature Chickenjoy fried chicken and quirky breakfast dish of corned beef with garlic rice and egg. The fast-food multinational hopes to rival KFC, launching 50 restaurants across the UK as part of a £30 million expansion drive. With us Brits spending just shy of £850 million on fried chicken each year, you can see why.
Năm Sông
A new Vietnamese coffee shop, bar and kitchen has opened on the corner of New Briggate. Born from a travelling couple’s shared love of the country, the pair’s two Sheffield branches have been voted the city’s Best Southeast Asian Restaurant. Now a vibrant addition to the Leeds street food scene, low tables and colourful rugs and make for an atmospheric space to try its authentic street food-style small plates and phin filter coffees. After a successful soft launch, the new site is set to open seven days a week, firing out steaming bowls of pho noodle soup and bahn mi rice dishes.
Catch Harrogate
The award-winning seafood brand has recently completed an impressive £250,000 refurbishment of the former Graveley’s of Harrogate site on Cheltenham Parade. Following a full kitchen renovation, new champagne and oyster bar and glitzy restaurant refit, diners can partake of everything from traditional fish and chips to the more exotic seafood specials that the family-run restaurant is known for. With four other branches, including its Street Lane venture you may have noticed launched last year, you’ll know by now it’s far from your usual chippy experience.
