Alan Brosgill has become the only Jewish Bridge Grand Master in Leeds, the first in over 20 years.
Alan Brosgill has become the only Jewish Bridge Grand Master in Leeds, and one of only three that have hailed from Yorkshire. It is over 20 years since Leeds had a Jewish Bridge Grand Master.
Alan is a member of 300 strong Leeds Bridge Club which has a large Jewish membership, playing at the Moor Allerton Sports and Social Centre on Stonegate Road. The club, as well as holding games for all levels, provides teaching for beginners and improvers.
During the past 12 months Alan, with his partner Robin Jepson, has won the National Pairs Northern Region trophy, the Yorkshire Congress Pairs and, with teammates, won the Yorkshire Congress Teams. He also won the Northern Midweek Swiss Pairs with Mike Ferguson .
As well as representing Leeds A team, Alan has represented Yorkshire on many occasions and was a member of the team that won the Northern Bridge League A Division, and the President’s Cup in 2023.
Alan said that Bridge is a fantastic game and thoroughly recommends it to everyone: “Bridge is a great stimulation to the brain which is very important as we get older. Research has found that playing has a statistically significant positive effect on wellbeing. It is also a great fun and social activity whether played in the comfort of your own home, with friends, or at the Bridge Club in Leeds.”
