On 8th October, photographer and entrepreneur Jonathan Straight will be in conversation with Sydney Thornbury, artistic director of The Art House in Wakefield, discussing his latest book of photography, Vegans in Iceland, as part of Milim’s virtual programme.
This book documents a visit to the volcanic island, made in 2019, to photograph members of the vegan community there. The black and white portraits are interspersed with other vegan-inspired images taken on the trip, and Jonathon will discuss the stories behind the project.
Having enjoyed a former career as a successful environmental entrepreneur, Jonathan now continues to work on various photographic projects as well as being involved with different businesses and charities. In 2018, he published Blood, Sweat, Tears and Helicopters, a documentary study of the Israeli Ambulance Service. He was shortlisted for Portrait of Britain 2019, and has had his work exhibited across the UK.
