Pupils at Bury and Whitefield Jewish Primary School attended a presentation by We Were There Too (WWTT) and learned all about the importance of Remembrance, the meaning and symbolism of The Poppy, and The Jewish contribution throughout The First World War.
Project manager for the online platform which commemorates and documents Jewish history during the war years, said: “It was wonderful to see just how the Bury and Whitefield children got involved in their presentation. The letters they wrote signifying their appreciation of the poppy and its meaning, were incredibly moving.
“As we approach Remembrance Day we feel it is important that young people in our community appreciate the sacrifices made by so many. We encourage them to research their own families to see just how much the Jewish community did to support this country throughout those dark days.”
The WWTT website, Jewsfww.uk, contains hundreds of moving and extraordinary individual and family stories and even has a facility to commemorate the yahrzeits of those who fell in battle.
