Can We Live a More Eco-Friendly Lifestyle Without Making Big Changes?

Live a minimal lifestyle

We are all guilty of needless buys and fast fashion, cut this down or cut this out! We can certainly benefit more from repeating our outfits, thinking twice about purchasing and saving some cash in the long run.

Minimal Lifestyle.

Eat less meat.

Unless you’re already vegan or vegetarian, you could consider introducing one or two ‘meat-free’ dinners a week into your household. This comes with many benefits, not only to the environment but to the cost of your food shop!

Ditch the face wipes and use a good old flannel.

Take it old school, a natural cleanser and flannel is perfect for your skin and not to mention better for the environment, research shows that face wipes aren’t always the best solution to removing your makeup anyway!

Start a compost bin.

Compost bins reduces landfill waste, recycles your waste, introduces valuable organisms to the soil as well as nutrients, not to mention it reduces the need for chemical fertilisers, who knew?!

Purchase the right lightbulbs.

Despite being eco-friendly, they are energy efficient and have a long lifespan. LED bulbs consume less power per unit (lumen) of light emitted. This reduces greenhouse emissions from power plants. Carbon dioxide emissions for LEDs are also low. Roughly, one LED bulb will minimize greenhouse gas emissions by almost half a ton.

Eco-friendly Lightbulb.

Use eco-friendly, natural cleaning products, i.e. a Lemon!

There are many things we can clean using lemons inside our homes, here are just a few ideas:

Microwave:

Cut the lemon in half and squeeze each half into a bowl which is filled halfway with water.  Then place the rest of the lemon into the bowl and place it inside your microwave.  Next, set the timer for 3-5 minutes and cook the concoction on highest setting available.  Once it beeps, let the microwave cool down for 5 minutes or so.  Then, remove the dish and wipe the interior with a microfiber cloth.

Faucets:

All you have to do is cut a lemon in half…and that’s it! Work the fleshy part of the lemon directly on the faucet, making sure to get into all the nooks and crannies where the acidic juices will cut through grease and loosen mineral deposits. Finish up by wiping everything away using a clean, dry microfibre cloth.

Soap Scum:

Apply the lemon juice directly to the area using a sponge or pour some lemon juice in a spray bottle and use that to apply to a larger surface.  Allow the lemon juice to sit for a minute and then wipe clean using a clean, damp cloth. Don’t use this on natural stone!
