Beautiful walks to provide the perfect backdrop for your Passover Matzah ramblings.

Roundhay Park | Roundhay

With a stretch of 700 acres, Roundhay Park is one of the largest inner-city parks in Europe. The park is home to woodland, lakes, and gardens to provide you with the perfect backdrop for tucking into your Pesach picnic. If you want to make it a family day out, extend your visit by stopping by the playground, Tropical World Zoo, or Roundhay Castle, all without leaving the park.

For nature and wildlife-lovers Eccup reservoir is the option for you. The park is well-known as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) for its large overwintering bird population. Find a route around the water’s edge and pause for some bird watching on your way to your picnic spot, you might even spot a red kite from the viewing platform.

The Meanwood Valley Trail

The Meanwood Valley Trail is perfect for the hiking fanatics of your family. The route begins in Woodhouse Moor and ends in Golden Acre Park, taking approximately two hours to complete. There are multiple stopping places to unpack your picnic along the trail. The Meanwood Valley Park Rangers especially recommend Scotland Wood, along the Adel Beck, to have a peaceful picnic among the trees. The trail can also be split into three smaller sections for those wanting a shorter walk.

Golden Acre Park | Bramhope

At Golden Acre Park there are several corners of manicured gardens to explore, all with benches overlooking idyllic views. Walk through the Wildflower Meadow, Heather Garden, Cherry Orchard, or beside the Wildfowl Lake to find a setting for your Matzah picnic. With all its beautiful flowers the park in full bloom is a sight to see, and there are plenty of trails to walk, with the longest taking around an hour and a half.

Hetchell Wood Nature Reserve

Discover your own unique route around Hetchell Wood Nature Reserve and stumble upon a quiet picnic spot to eat your Matzah. Expect tall, ancient trees and rocky footpaths, and in the spring find seasonal bluebells and wild garlic. Hetchell Woods is a great place to walk for families with dogs as they can run around and discover the open space off-lead.
