Boutiques, restaurants, and family attractions; the leisure hub of Street Lane has it all!
Leeds is full of small, vibrant areas offering a wealth of attractions and a unique atmosphere each of their own. Among these, Street Lane stands out as an area that beautifully combines history, modernity, and a sense of community. The area offers a charming blend of trendy boutiques, cozy cafes, and a rich historical heritage showcasing what makes this area a must-visit destination for locals and tourists alike.
Street Lane has a history dating back to the 18th century, and it has evolved from a rural road into a bustling cosmopolitan hub, and event at one point saw a tramline installed. The street was initially a connection between Leeds and Roundhay Park, known for its grandeur and greenery, and drawing in a wealthy crowd. Over time, it has seen the development of residential and commercial spaces, transforming into a lively area.
Roundhay Park will soon be opening an new art exhibition and Christmas Market. Lasting from 4th November until 31st January, the exhibition will be showcasing new original artwork inspired by the natural beauty of Yorkshire. The Christmas Market will offer a variety of crafts including home fragrance, jewellery, candles, ceramics, gingerbread gifts, and handmade Christmas decorations, all produced by local artisan makers.
One of the main attractions of Street Lane is its unique shopping experience. The street is lined with independent boutiques, offering a diverse range of products. From stylish clothing stores to home décor shops, you can find a variety of locally sourced and handcrafted items.
Foodies are well catered for here as well; Street Lane boasts a diverse culinary scene with an array of restaurants and cafes. You’ll find yourself spoiled for choice. Whether you’re in the mood for classic British pub fare, international cuisine, or gourmet dining, you’ll find it here. The area’s charming cafes are perfect for a leisurely brunch or a quick coffee break.
Even some of the area’s old favourites are reinventing themselves, with Pizza Express having completed its refurb at the end of August. Fans of the pizza chain will be blown away by the transformation, with the new décor showing of an understated jungle theme, including hand drawn wallpaper. Pizza Express isn’t the only Street Lane restaurant making changes, however, with La Petite café back open and under new management. The area has also recently welcomed a new venture from The Olive Branch, in the shape of a new tapas and wine bar, complete with a bottomless brunch and breakfast buffet.
Saturday night is bagel night, as Street Lane Bakery has undergone a massive refit and launched a new menu and eating area, while just off the main drag, The Leeds Deli has opened a new café for local toddlers just next door on the Chelwood parade. Unlike any other soft play centre, space has been tastefully designed with Scandi-style wood and a shop selling independent brands.
If you’re feeling the need to walk off some calories, a few minutes down the lane lies Roundhay Park, one of the largest city parks in Europe, a vast green oasis featuring lakes, woodlands, gardens, and open spaces, making it an ideal place for picnics, walks, and outdoor activities. The nearby Canal Gardens and Tropical World are also popular destinations for nature lovers and families. Keep your eyes peeled for some exciting festive events this month.
