Summer is here! Get out and about with our selection of picnic spots around Ramsbottom.
With the North West being known for its less than temperate weather, when it isn’t grey and miserable it’s important to make the most of it. On your day out in Rammy, why not head off for a picnic in one of the many idyllic parks and green spaces in the surrounding area?
Edenfield Waterfall
This hidden gem is concealed among the trees but is more than worth seeking out. Whether you want to take a wild swim or have a break in a secluded area, just a 10-minute drive out of Ramsbottom will lead you to this beautiful pocket of nature. There are grassy banks surrounding the waterfall, making it a perfect location for you and your picnic blanket.
Jumbles Country Park
Opened in 1971 by Queen Elizabeth II, this park has the royal stamp of approval. Perfect for families and those with pushchairs, the park offers a flat and easy terrain which surrounds the Jumbles reservoir. There are also other trails with a few short, more challenging climbs if you want to work up a bit more of an appetite before sitting down to enjoy your picnic on the park grounds.
Healey Dell Nature Reserve
A disused railway line is now a scenic nature trail with magnificent views from a 100 ft. high viaduct which makes for stunning views all year round, particularly in the summertime. The river Spodden has carved its way through the reserve’s woodlands over thousands of years, creating delightful scenery and spectacular waterfalls. As well as pleasant surroundings, Healey Dell is great for the kids as there’s a fairy grotto where you can meet the Healey Dell Fairy, making your picnic day a little bit more magical!
Fletcher Moss Gardens
A bit further afield but worth the drive, Fletcher Moss Gardens is a sprawling green space located in Didsbury stretching from the River Mersey to Stenner Woods. The gardens were gifted to Manchester council in the early 1900s by Aldermen Fletcher Moss and still retain many of their original features. The RSPB was founded here, making it a great location for any bird enthusiasts. Spread your blanket out and enjoy your picnic in the Manchester sunshine surrounded by picturesque scenery and hundreds of wildlife species.
