Israeli researchers have found a reason why women with Alzheimer’s disease experience faster cognitive deterioration than men, leading to new developments in treating the disease.
Women suffering from Alzheimer’s have been found to generationally inherit a specific molecular mechanism from their mothers wherein their tRNA, (a part of the cell which helps build proteins) is severely depleted in the brain nuclei.
Due to this discovery scientists may be able to develop new solutions via RNA- based therapies for patients with the disease.
Professor Hermona Soreq, the brain gene expert at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem who led the study says: “Our research presents a significant contribution to the existing body of Alzheimer’s research, underscoring crucial distinctions not only in disease progression but also in treatment response.”
