North Leeds is set to become a centre for faith education across the region, as the Leeds Jewish Representative Council establishes The Northern School of Jewish Studies.
The Leeds Jewish Representative Council’s (LJRC) ongoing work with global humanitarian organisation, the American Joint Distribution
Committee (JDC), has recently led to the creation of a new Northern School of Jewish Studies.
Funded by Educating for Impact (EFI), a non-profit supporting Jewish schools across Europe, the new initiative will be based at Brodetsky
Primary School and will see accredited training for Jewish studies teachers from across the north of England.
EFI is also funding the community’s first Jewish education outreach officer, Naomi Goldman, who, for the next two years, will support Leeds’
educational provision by enhancing young peoples’ connection to Judaism. Working from Brodetsky, alongside Jewish studies teacher Sagi Yechezkel and LJRC executive director Susie Gordon, Naomi will be helping to deliver key priorities within the EFI programme.
Naomi has worked and volunteered in the community in various roles for many years, engaging people all ages and backgrounds. Through her new role, Naomi will focus on enhancing the community’s connection to their faith and local area by creating engaging Jewish experiences. In doing so, the foundations for a stronger, more resilient community can be laid for generations to come.
