The 22nd North Leeds (Hillel) Jewish Scout Group were forced to hold their summer camps virtually for the first time in their 110 year history. But that did not stop the fun with the Beaver Colony, Cub Pack and Scout Troop all taking part.
The boys were all set challenges from pitching their tents in their gardens or creating a den in their bedroom to serving camp breakfasts to their families. The individual sections also held their own activities with the Beavers (aged 6-7) enjoying Bingo and creating self-portraits of themselves using items they found in their garden. Cub camp would not be cub camp (aged 8-10) without a teddy bear competition but in line with virtual camping virtual backgrounds were created on a Scouting theme. Whereas the Scouts (aged over 11) created their own virtual survival kit and even had time for some wood craft during the weekend.
A Havdalah ceremony was led by Chazan Alby and camp was finished off in traditional style with a camp fire sing along.
Philip Goldberg, Group Scout Leader, said that this camp is one which none of us will ever forget but during this difficult time it was amazing to see all the children enjoying traditional scouting activities and sharing that enjoyment with their families. All the leaders would like to thank the parents for helping this camp to take place.
