Former Brodetsky Primary School teacher, Rebecca Skolnick, has started a new out of school music class.
A primary school teacher has combined her passion for teaching with music, to create a new out of school class for children.
Musical Theatre Life is the brainchild of former Brodetsky Primary School teacher, Rebecca Skolnick who discovered her love for music at the age of six.
Spotting a gap in the market, Musical Theatre Life provides a space for children of all abilities to experience, explore, and express themselves through musical theatre – with scope to expand to pre-school and adult classes.
Children will be introduced to a host of musicals and given the chance to learn lines and songs to build confidence and gain an understanding of different types of music.
With a wealth of knowledge in music and drama based on her own personal and professional experiences, Rebecca is perfectly placed to run the classes, which will be held at the Avenue Community Centre on a weekly basis beginning in January 2023.
Rebecca said: “Music has always been a big part of my life, so I wanted to share this with other people to enable them to experience and enjoy all musical theatre has to offer.
“As a child, I would listen to the Sound of Music on record at my grandparents house and sing along while my Grandpa played the piano. This inspired me to go on to have piano and drama lessons, to then take this love into schools, where I have always been heavily involved in extracurricular music classes.
“Being Head of Music at Brodetsky was such a privilege. It has encouraged me to step into a new space where I can now inspire more children to experience musical theatre.”
A qualified teacher for over 15 years, Rebecca will lead the classes with the help of Lucy Sherman, who has a wealth of professional experience in musical theatre.
