The St. James’s Place Yorkshire Children of Courage Awards 2015 (YCCA), was once again staged at New Dock Hall, Leeds, with fundraising on the evening topping £115,000; marking an increase of £15,000 on last year’s event.

800 people attended the star-studded awards ceremony compèred by Steph McGovern, BBC Breakfast journalist, and supported by event ambassadors, the Chuckle Brothers. Also lending their support and giving freely of their time were a host of local business, TV and sporting stars, including Sir Gary Verity, Kate Hardcastle, Christine Talbot, Jamie Jones-Buchanan, Hazel Latner (Miss Leeds) and Charlotte Newman, the face of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Now in their fifth year, the YCCA have grown in popularity and this time attracted a record number of nominations for inspirational children and young adults. They were honoured in two age categories – up to 12 years old and 13 to 18 years old for their bravery, sporting achievement, and fundraising activities. The local group award was won by The Donkey Sanctuary in recognition of their unstinting work in their local community.

YCCA combines honouring and recognising courageous young people with raising funds for St. James’s Place Foundation, contributing towards helping community groups and organisations in the Yorkshire region
