Wigton Moor Primary School in Alwoodley is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a series of special events.
In June Wigton Moor Primary School will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. There will be lots of fun activities, learning and opportunities to celebrate for the children, teachers, parents and families.
This will include the following key activities:
26th June
Everyone in school will be dressing up in 1960s style clothing or as a 1960s TV or book character. There will be a special assembly during which ex-staff and pupils will talk about the school and how it has changed. The school is arranging a variety of dance, art, music and history workshops for the children throughout the day, when they will learn about the 1960s era. Even school dinners will be 1960s style! During the afternoon there will then be a celebratory tea party outdoors (weather permitting of course!).
27th June
The school will be holding a special 1960s style Summer Fair. Events and stalls will include a live band (The Blue Suede Dudes), a Wigton Moor Bake Off, Punch and Judy, traditional races such as egg and spoon, a balloon race, a fancy dress parade, retro sweet stall, face painting and much more!
The school have also booked a photographer to take a whole school photo and will be burying a 2015 Time Capsule in the school grounds. There will be a competition for the children to design a special 50th anniversary Wigton Moor canvas bag.
